The Chicago Institute for Fetal Health, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine

Edward Gong, MD, is an attending urologist at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and an Assistant Professor in Urology at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. His primary goal as a physician is to equip parents with the information necessary to make informed decisions regarding their child’s care. This is done through thoughtful discussion and building a therapeutic relationship with both his patients and their families. Though medical decision making can be complex, it is vital that the patients, their families, and their physicians all be on the same team in regard to advancing patient care.

Dr. Gong completed undergraduate training at Harvard University and received his medical doctorate from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. His urology residency was performed at the University of Chicago before returning to Harvard for fellowship training at Boston Children’s Hospital. Dr. Gong has been on faculty at Lurie Children’s Hospital since 2011. He specializes in minimally invasive urologic procedures including robotic, laparoscopic, and endoscopic procedures. He also serves as the assistant program director for the Northwestern urology residency program.

The focus of Dr. Gong’s research is to determine mechanisms behind pathologic bladder degeneration. His goal is to develop therapeutic agents that can prevent loss of bladder function and promote regeneration of healthy bladder tissue in children affected by posterior urethral valves or neurogenic bladder.
